A quick look into Frank Gehry’s famed new Grand Avenue project: The Grand

February 7, 2018

It’s been shaping up for a few years now but Developer Related Companies + Frank Gehry have now unveiled new renderings of their upcoming $1 billion mixed-used development next to Downtown’s Walt Disney Concert Hall. It has been confirmed by the Developer that construction will begin this fall.

The project, dubbed The Grand, will boast 20,000 SF of retail integrated within the plaza, a 450-seat cinema, and a 20-story, 314-room Equinox hotel to the parcel at First and Grand, which is currently operated as a parking structure. The other parcel will include a 39-story tower with 113 condos and 323 apartments (20% of the apartments will be subsidized to low-income tenants).

Once completed, the project should be wrapped up in 2021. Upon completion, Gehry’s original vision for this site coupled with the Walt Disney Concert Hall will have finally come to fruition (only a few years late).

“You close that piece of Grand Avenue, put some chairs out there and you’ve got something special. We’re not just building buildings, we’re building places.” –Frank Gehry
